Frequently Asked Questions

How involved do I need to be throughout the project?

1

Lagom is a full-service design and build studio, meaning we manage everything from planning and design to permitting, trade coordination, and construction. You’ll be most involved during the early design phase, with clear approval points as the project moves forward.

We provide regular communication throughout and take the time to explain our process and the why behind key decisions, so you always feel informed and confident.

How do I get started?

2

Your initial estimate is a high-level budget used to explore scope and confirm fit. It includes allowances that are refined during the design phase as selections are made and details are finalized.

Selections are guided through a collaborative design process, with the budget updated along the way to maintain clarity and transparency.

How do you handle changes or unexpected discoveries during construction?

3

Renovations—especially in older homes—can come with unknowns. During planning, we consider these possibilities and often recommend building in a contingency.

If surprises arise during construction, they are addressed in real time and communicated clearly. We take a calm, problem-solving approach, keeping you informed and offering thoughtful recommendations so you can move forward with confidence.

Who will be on site, and how is quality managed?

4

As a small, family-owned business, we are personally involved on site almost every day. We intentionally run one project at a time to ensure full oversight and attention to detail.

Quality is supported through clear processes, regular checkpoints, and inspections throughout the build.

Can we stay in our home during the renovation?

5

For smaller renovations, staying in your home is often possible. For larger, full-home renovations—especially those affecting kitchens, full bathrooms, or involving structural and mechanical work—this is typically not recommended.

We’ll help guide this decision based on your scope, with safety, comfort, and efficiency in mind.

How early should we begin planning our renovation?

6

It’s never too early to start planning. Smaller, cosmetic projects may require 4–8 weeks, while larger remodels involving permits and detailed coordination typically require 8–16 weeks or more. Starting early allows for better design outcomes and a smoother overall process.
